Emmett Rahl Column - November 2003 (Club Notes)

SAFETY – Daylight Saving Time is OVER! Please wear a reflector vest, a light, or white clothing and WATCH OUT FOR CARS! Reflector vests or a small clip-on blinking light are available at local sporting good stores (like Sports Chalet). It’s a small investment (under $15) for safety.

BOARD MEETING – AREC’s biennual elections are just one agenda item at our next meeting. A slate of directors needs to be finalized. PLEASE talk to the Todds or myself if you have even a little interest in directing the future of this club. Other issues to discuss include new team t-shirts, membership rates and upcoming social events. The meeting will be on Wednesday, November 19th after the run. Please attend and help make AREC the best running club!

VOLUNTEER THANKS – Heather, Todd B., Margaret, Bernard and I attended the Volunteer Thank-You party this past Sunday. It was a lot of fun, and both Bernard and I took home a raffle prize. The highlight of the night (besides John and Blair making multiple opportunities to tout AREC) was our own Heather Stevens receiving a special award for Most Inspirational Volunteer. I hope this means lots more participants at this weekend’s Fila Pancreatic Cancer Challenge! Congratulations, Heather! On the volunteer note, I just want to thank everyone that helped out. It’s nice to see AREC with a notable presence both running and volunteering at our most prominent Long Beach running event! Maybe if AREC puts on a race again (like many years ago), we can get the requisite volunteer help to make it a great event!
