As excited as I was about so many people motoring on up to Vegas to run one race or another, I had this underlying concern that with all the Hashers present, that it was going to be one big party, and that we would all run terrible races!
Only part of that prediction came true, that is, most of the marathoners had “terrible races.” Which is not to say that we had less than a 100% finishing rate, just that we didn’t meet our own expectations. The half marathoners? Read about their success below!
As for other events going on this past month, our turnout gets greater and greater almost every week. I’m wondering if we’re having a positive influence on all the hashers that run with us! I think the little bit of rain we had the past two weeks scared a few people away, but remember, we run every Wednesday, rain or shine, just ask Bernard!
Last month, I broached the subject of restarting AREC as a “real running team.” Not that we don’t have the camaraderie already, but being part of a team has its benefits - insurance, longer newsletters, and a better excuse to have parties. If you have hashed, you know that it’s difficult to do anything for free (but we would definitely make the cost no more than $20/yr.). In the next few weeks, I’m going to bring in catalogs with jerseys and shorts. We’re looking to, at the very least, imprint the logo on the tops (and maybe let people choose their own shorts), and go solid black, with white logo (but any input is welcomed). If you are unsure about style or fit, most of these companies are willing to mail samples to test the fit. Also (what the heck...), if you know anyone who’d want to “sponsor” our team (ghsports.com has offered 30% off their products to sponsor us), we could get a better deal on our team uniform.
Finally, I just want offer out special thanks to Laura Chaides, Karine Brooks, Todd Byers and Marlaigne Hudnall for providing newsletter articles on a consistent basis. It means I don’t need to make as much up for Todd Rose or pull from other sources. However, the fact that they submit information or articles, doesn’t mean that the rest of you are off the hook...
