Wisdom from the Web - Emmett Rahl Column - April 2008

Just an update of things going on from the AREC website. We are currently working on an overhaul and some items may be rearranged in the very near future. If you have ideas for things that are currently on the site or stuff you would like to see on site, please talk to us after a run or send me an e-mail. If you have web skills and would like to help out, PLEASE talk to us or send an e-mail. Please continue to send me your results via e-mail. I try to find results regardless, but it is easier if you tell me. You will always be able to find the results I have by looking at http://www.arec-lb.com/resultgp.html

FORUM. There is a FORUM online for use by AREC members. You can discuss anything you want on this. Right now, usage is somewhat slow, because people are getting to it, but it is a great spot for commenting on stuff that happened at the runs or replies to certain e-mails. I think it is a great alternative to replying “all” to messages, and you can follow the conversation even if you missed a message or two.

Links. A few years ago, AREC had an opportunity to work with Road Runner Sports. We have a “online relationship” which gives a rebate to the club for any online purchases instigated through the link on our link page. I have been making connections with various other running-related entities, so if you see a company that you do business with (and it is the best deal), use the link and it benefits the club. Currently, I have links to: Puma, Road Runner Sports, Alaska Airlines, Eastern Mountain Sports, Finishline, Accelerade, Barnes & Noble, Airfare Planet and Quikbook. I am hoping to have a connection to Patagonia sometime in the next month.

Members Only Benefit. As with the past few years, we make the e-mail and the newsletter a members benefit. If you find yourself asking Todd Rose for a copy of the newsletter, because you didn’t get one by e-mail as usual, either I made a mistake, or you haven’t renewed for 2008 yet.
