I think if I were to summarize the month of May for AREC, it would be lots of running, racing and hashing. Yes, hashing. For those of you who don’t know much about the history of the club, ask Bernard Dean Mills, but in a nutshell, AREC grew out of a running store called A Running Experience. The group that became the Long Beach Hash House Harriers (www.hash.org) grew out of the original AREC group. May found most AREC members running lots of races (Laura C., Todd B., and myself running at least every weekend), going for a lot of workout runs (31 people at last Wednesday’s run), and hashing. Some of you guys I see maybe 3-4 times a week running. And it’s great!
If you check out the calendar, there are lots of great races coming up in June and July. One day of note is July 4th, which just happens to be a Wednesday. Why not run a race, and then maybe will have an AREC barbecue. Talk to me or Todd Rose if you might be interested in hosting!
Again, just my little blurb on membership. Twenty AREC members have signed up. Again, I’ll remind you that there’s no requirement to join, but doing so supports the club and insures you against accidents while participating in club activity. If you are thinking about joining, but want more, please talk with Todd, Todd or myself and we definitely look into it.
Lastly, another plug for articles/input for the newsletter. As you may well imagine, it’s a lot of work for me, especially now that I have to use my home computer (it’s VERY slow). I would LOVE to have a feature article on an AREC member, so if you’re not that fond of writing, just talk to me! I would also like to begin doing an on-line race review page. If you have run a race in the past month, rate it on an Excellent-Good-Fair-Poor scale in the following areas: Price, Registration, Course, Shirt, and Support. Lastly, for the newsletter, I would like to get your race results ASAP. It’s usually easier to hear it from you all, than to find them on-line.
