Now that summer is here, the excuse that it’s too cold to run is at an end! If you begin using the “it’s too hot to run excuse, then ALL the more reason you should be out here running.
AREC has been looking good recently, with good numbers on both Sundays and Wednesdays. Please make this continue by showing up regularly and bringing your friends. After all, running should be fun, not a chore!
If you want to try racing, there are a number of fun activities coming up that a number of us have already committed to, that I think you’ll find fun:
June 22 – Wild Rivers Run This is either a 5K through the old Wild Animal Park in Irvine OR a 2-mile run/waterslide race. If you like the water park, it includes a same-day admission ticket.
October 6 – Magic Mountain Run This is a 5K run through Magic Mountain. Ever wondered what it would be like to run through an empty theme park? Well, you can do this race and then spend all day at the park!
Also this summer we are looking into some fun club activities that either center around races, long runs, or just stuff we all can do together.
Summer also seems to be movie time. Starting this month, I will be writing a series of reviews of movies with running as the theme. If you have a favorite, please tell me and I will give it a review in a future issue.
Finally, we are looking to schedule an AREC board meeting for July. Some things we are looking at are LB marathon activities, membership issues, and social events. If you have any concerns, or would like to help out, please contact one of the board members (Todd Rose, Todd Byers, Laura Chaides or myself.)
