Emmett Rahl Column - June 2005 (Club Notes)

Marathon Training. Long Beach Marathon training began last month and is a great group to run with. Each of the last weeks has had 20-30 runners. Special thanks to Todd Rose, Bernard Dean Mills, Win Freeman, Steven Secker, and Josh Brakefield for coming out and pacing. We’d love to see other ARECers out training or just running Saturday mornings at 7am (by Joe’s Crab Shack in Long Beach).

NOTE: Saturday, June 11th, we’ll meet at 500 Bellflower Blvd. After the run, Todd Rose will give his talk on 26.2 tips for running a marathon.

Membership. It’s never too late to join. Remember, dues cover all club activities, including marathon training, social events and a free technical team t-shirt. Membership is just $25/year or $40 for same household members.

Safety. Most of AREC’s runs are on streets. Cars are not looking out for runners. Help yourself and others stay safe by watching out for moving vehicles. Watch, look and listen.

Upcoming Races / Events. Five years ago, AREC had a club trip to run the Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon. A fun time was had by all. If anyone has a good idea for a destination race (more than just a week or two down the road), talk to Ed Villalobos and we can all experience another fun road trip!

Get Involved! This is probably the section you skim over, but if you have any ideas at all for a direction the club should go – whether it involves putting on club races, more social events (a given, watching the Wed. night Limerick’s scene), or whatever, talk to Todd or Emmett!
