Variety of Weekly AREC Runs. With the marathon-training group in full-swing, there are now 3 times a week that you can run with A Running Experience Club!
Currently, the most popular run is Wednesday evenings at Limerick’s. We’ve been averaging about 40 runners. It’s great to see so many people running… and socializing afterwards. Continue to spread the word!
Next, of course, is the marathon training group, which meets Saturday mornings at 7am (near Joe’s Crab Shack (on Marina Drive between 2nd Street and Studebaker). Although the runs are getting longer, we’d still love to see any members come run with us, for support (and for your own exercise. In July, we are running the following distances:
Sign up with Todd Rose if you can help, or just show up. If you join the Marathon Training list at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/arec-training you’ll get updates on marathon training events and a description of each week’s course.
Finally, there is the Sunday running group. This is our smallest group, but there’s always a few people there. We’d like to see this group grow. Special Thanks to David Duckman who has provided an information-slash-refreshment table for the past several years! Maybe we can all go out for breakfast afterwards?
AREC Board Meeting. As per our bylaws, we are required to have 4 meetings per year. Our upcoming meeting on July 27th (after the Wednesday run) is our next meeting. We have a few topics on the agenda, including:
Board meetings are open to everyone. Whether you feel strongly about a topic or not, AREC is your club, and the more input the board has, the better we can make the club. Past meetings have helped to shape AREC into an inclusive fun group!
Membership. Whether you’ve been running since January or just started, it’s never too late to join. At $25/single or $40/household, it’s a great deal! The fee gets each member a technical team t-shirt, marathon training, and social events. me household members.
Safety. Although it is light out for most of the run, please run safely. Even on Wednesdays, when we take up more space than cars, remember that cars do have right-of-way in the streets. Try and stay to the sides (best if you can run on the sidewalk or as close to the curb, facing traffic). Places where cars will not be looking for you include:
The way to stay the safest, especially in these most dangerous areas, is to adhere as closely as possible to the law: Wait to cross at a stop sign or light, rather than jumping out in the middle; AND, if you are wearing headphones, take them off as you approach a potentially hazardous crossing. After all, it’s more fun running and celebrating afterwards at Limerick’s than at the hospital!
