Half/Full Marathon Training continues! We are still getting a nice large contingent at our training runs. One upcoming event that you definitely want to attend is on July 18th after the run. Long Beach podiatrist Dr. Richard Graves will be giving a talk about common running foot injuries and how to treat and/or prevent them.
Water Station Help! Deb Cardinale, who manages the water stations during half and full training is in need of help in staffing water stations during training runs. She sent out a list, but if you can help in any way, please e-mail her.
E-mail Overload. A few people have commented that the main e-mail list (AREC News) is sending out an awful lot of messages, almost to the point of spam. We are working on a solution to that issue. Meanwhile, there are a couple of options if you have information you would like to pass on to members:
One idea that I am working on is to have a newsletter-only list and a separate list for anything people would like to post (that way members have an option whether to receive the messages or not).
Clif Recycle Program. For the past 6 months, AREC has been participating in a Clif wrapper recycle program. Specifically, these are the wrappers with metallic insides (like the mini-bars; not like the Clif Blox). Besides keeping the wrappers out of landfill, AREC receives a small rebate for every wrapper that gets recycled. Since we receive a supply of sample bars from Clif, please bring those wrappers back and make our recycling program a success!
End of Grand Prix Awards. Next month we will have a board meeting. One agenda item is Award winners. Start thinking about who is the most improved, most inspirational and your Runners of the Year.
Grand Prix Notes. This month's stats relates to Grand Prix points. Since the beginning of the program in 1999, I have been tracking the 25 highest point totals for males and females. With 2 months remaining in the GP, the top 8 females this year now rank in the highest point totals of all time! Congratulations, ladies!
