Well, it’s hard to believe that Labor Day has come and gone already, but summer is just about over. The end of summer (well, the end of August actually) signifies the end of the AREC Grand Prix. For those of you unfamiliar with the Grand Prix, it is a points system for AREC runners which benefits frequent racers as well as newcomers to running. You may also ask, “Why does it end in August?” And the answer is that there are lots of races in August as compared to December, so we can have an exciting finish, and more people will be around to celebrate the winners. Be sure and congratulate the winners and runners-up and attend our board meeting/awards ceremony at Coachs on Wednesday, September 26th after the run. Also be sure to pick up your ballot for Male and Female Runner of the Year.
As for newsletter articles, you all are off the hook for this month, because we had all the awards to present, but I don’t like seeing you all nodding your heads every week when Todd makes the announcement, and just hoping that someone else will do it. I’M the one who has to make up all the articles. If you have been running less than a year with AREC, I’d like to talk to you, and do a little feature article on why you run.
Finally, just another plug for club membership. There is no requirement to join, but if you do enjoy the Wednesday workouts, and would like to pledge your support for the club, the last 4 months of the year are discounted at just $15 and that still includes a club tank top or T-shirt.
