Marathon training continues. Each Saturday, at 7:00am, at Stoneybrook Villas Clubhouse (500 Bellflower Blvd., near Pacific Coast Highway), our runs continue. The current distance is about 20 miles and is very easy going. We are still looking for volunteers to help out. Volunteering simply involves showing up and running at whatever pace you want (after all, it’s training for everyone), and if you know the area, all the better! If you can’t run, biking with water helps too!
Board Meeting. The AREC Board Meeting took place on Wednesday, August 25th at Limerick’s. Here is a synopsis of what went on:
Old Business. The club bylaws are being revised. Contact a member of the board if you would like a copy.
Todd Byers will be remeasuring and marking the Sunday and Wednesday courses, so you can tell at what pace you are running.
Membership. Dues will remain at $25/year. If members want to join after September 1st, the cost will drop to $15 for the remainder of the year.
Budget. A budget was approved. Again, contact a board member if you would like a copy.
Phone List. A new club phone list will be out soon. Please contact me (edrahl@yahoo.com) with the number and e-mail you want printed.
T-Shirt Design. We are currently looking into having a different color scheme. Please give any input to Todd Rose and when he comes back with options, PLEASE give your opinion!
LB Marathon Volunteers. Todd Byers made a presentation (see article). Please volunteer.
Web Site. We have budgeted some money to upgrade the website and make the club more visible. If you have any additional input, contact me (edrahl@yahoo.com).
Marathon Training Volunteers. This is our first dedicated season of training, so there have been a few hitches in the organization. The club hopes that more regular members can show up to training runs and be supportive (and run slow with the group, if possible). Next year, hopefully, we can put together some kind of schedule and not leave the entire plan to one member (also, since the club has grown, this should be easier).
Marathon Pasta Party & AREC Awards. Every year, on the Friday before the LB Marathon, AREC holds its own pasta feed. In conjunction with this event, we hold our annual end-of-the-year awards (see explanation below). This year’s event will be on October 8, 2004, from 6:30pm – 10:30pm at Colleen Shea & Rich Satow’s house. More details by e-mail and at club runs soon.
Newsletter hiatus. Lucky me, I’m going to Asia with my family from September 21 – October 6. I will not be doing the newsletter from Hong Kong. The October newsletter will be coming out on October 13th (after the marathon). If you run any races in September/early October, please let me know so I can record your times. Also, any soundbyte you can provide about your marathon experience would be great, but you’ll have to send it to me the Monday after the marathon!
