Congratulations! You’ve made the first step on the journey to become a marathoner – just by running with AREC a few days a week, you are building up your base miles, and eventually, you will be ready to run a marathon.
The AREC training program is geared for beginning and intermediate runners and assumes that you have been running 12-15 miles per week. An easy way to meet this goal is to run every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning. Doing these runs also enable you to meet others who run close to your speed.
Starting on June 6th, the 18-week AREC training plan will kick in. Some of the longer runs will be incorporated into the Sunday runs and throughout the summer, there will be some Saturday runs as well. We plan to mix in some destination runs for variety.
Also during this period, AREC will have training tips in this newsletter and guest speakers. Take advantage of the great resource of AREC and ask anyone about their marathon experiences.
For those of you who have done several marathons, but will also be training for Long Beach (or another Fall marathon), we are looking for hosting volunteers. A host volunteer agrees to run with the group for a long run on a particular day. There is no requirement for a specific speed, but just to show up, do the run, and represent AREC. For more details, talk to Liz, Emmett or the Todds.
