Todd Byers Marathon Training Column - September 2002

A Running Experience Club Vice-President Todd Byers will present a seminar entitled “One month to go – Now what?!” at the Belmont Shore Library (195 Bay Shore Avenue, Belmont Shore) on Tuesday, September 24, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

With AREC’s being the official Long Beach area Running Club for the Long Beach International City Marathon (LBICM) to be held on Sunday, October 13, this informal seminar will be geared toward final preparations for that event. Both first time and seasoned marathoners will glean tips intended to make covering the distance even more fun. Included will be training ideas for these last couple of weeks, race day issues such as nutrition and hydration, and psychological aspects which could very well make the day much more enjoyable.

Todd is a more-scrappy-than-fast finisher of 140 marathons on five continents. Because there are as many ideas of how to complete a marathon as there are marathoners, come hear Todd’s unique perspective on what to do veiled in anecdotes of his experiences along the way. He will distribute a one-page flyer outlining many last minute “do’s and don’ts” for beginning marathoners. LBICM Race Director John Goldman will also be on-hand to provide information specific to the Long Beach events which also include a half marathon run, inline skate marathon, bike tour, and a 5K. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

The Belmont Shore Library venue easily accommodates 75 people and this event is open to the public at no charge. So come hear what Todd has to say that could very well make your own Long Beach International City Marathon (or any other long-run experience!) a pleasurable event to remember!
