Hi everybody, and welcome to Daylight Saving Time! It now feels like we're running at 5:30pm, so it's much lighter out. Thanks to everyone who wore a reflective vest throughout the dark winter months. It's always a good idea to wear one, but definitely not as crucial for the next six months. The time change also precedes one of my favorite annual events: the Jimmy Stewart Relay Marathon. Held this year on Sunday, April 22nd, it again promises to be an extremely popular race, benefitting Saint John's Children's Hospitals. It also appears popular with AREC runners: I'm expecting to have 5 teams signed up, but am shooting for 6 (that's 30 people - a new AREC record). Your participation supports not only the club, but the running community and charity as well, while enjoying a social day outside and knocking a few beers back with friends. It doesn't get much better than that! And now, a not-so-smooth segue: the next AREC Board Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25th after the run at Coachs bar, so mark your calendars. Everyone's input is welcomed!
I'll also just throw another reminder about dues. Again, there is no requirement to pay dues, but it does help defray our costs (like newsletters) and insures you during all AREC events. Dues are $25/year.
Finally, I'll have team shirts and tank tops available every Wednesday. If you paid new membership this year, you're entitled to a shirt. If you paid last year's, but haven't received a shirt, come see me. If you would like to buy an additional shirt, it's $10 (cash or check payable to AREC). I am also looking into another possibility, such as a hat. If this sounds of interest to you, please let me or Emmett know.
On a side note, I was talking to Bob Rice of Team Runners High this week and he was mentioning how surprised he was that we were fielding 6 Jimmy Stewart teams (none for TRH). So, here's a toast for making Team Runners High jealous!
