Let me start by thanking everyone who attended the AREC meeting on June 21st. It was the first such meeting in the past 4 years, and ironically was held at the same locale, Ian Varley’s house. And, though I felt the turnout was a little shy in actual numbers (17 people), the attitude of those present was anything but shy. Their participation showed incredible purpose and focus towards the future of AREC by bringing up many great ideas to consider and questions to look into. Four years ago, no action was taken on the ideas coming out of that meeting. I believe there was complacency and apathy running amok at that time compared to the sincere caring and loyalty to the club which I see today. It’s about time we kicked this club up a notch! I also feel it’s extremely important to maintain the fun-run, family-like atmosphere we have achieved. Remember, it’s your club, so take ownership to have it be the way you want it! Here is a quick list of topics, ideas and questions from the meeting:
1. Membership Dues - $10 (7/1/00 - 12/31/00), then $25/yr. thereafter.

A. Road Runner Club of America (RRCA) membership
B. Advertising - so we can continue to have new people to run with.
C. Race singlet or T-shirt with AREC logo
D. AREC Newsletter and race information
E. Social events
* Note: Membership is NOT required in order to run with AREC!
2. Board of Directors
A. To be elected every 2 years
B. Meet at least quarterly
C. Nominations were given at meeting
3. Ideas / Questions brought up:
A. Have choice of T-Shirt or race singlet
B. USATF or RRCA?
C. Create another safe 5 mile route to alternate every week
D. AREC still a registered non-profit organization
E. Get AREC stickers made
F. Do AREC members get a Runners High discount?
G. Write letter to Sports Street Marketing to keep GU / apparel
