My running experience with AREC has been…very enjoyable. I love it!
I've been with AREC since...2001.
The best thing about AREC is...1.) just having a group is great motivator to show up and run and, 2.) all the people are so great.
I run because...I got into running because it was an economical and efficient way of getting exercise. I started in college because for the first time in my life, I was gaining weight and then I started 5K's and 10K's and I've been hooked ever since!
When I'm not running...I’m usually working and I enjoy spending time with my fiancee and her family.
My favorite running shoe brand is...New Balance because of the various widths.
My pre-race meal is...oatmeal.
My favorite post-race meal is... a Double Double.
After a race I treat myself to...massage, when available.
My favorite race is...Maui Marathon because it's a good excuse to go to Maui. Big Sur and Catalina are a close second.
My goal is...to some day run another marathon under 4 hours.
When I run I think about...I usually have a problem going through my head and I think about the sights I see and the people I see and how happy I'll be when the race is over!
I'm inspired by...everybody else that runs.
My best training tip...keep it fun! If you're not having fun then you're doing something wrong.
I love...the feeling of accomplishment that comes after completing a marathon.
I hate...hearing "You're almost there!" and "A little further."
My biggest pet peeve is...races that finish on an uphill.
I like racing because...it keeps me motivated. I love seeing all the other people trying just like me.
I run marathons because…of that feeling of accomplishment that you get after working so hard towards a goal.
I've run 30 something marathons since…1997. My first marathon was the PV marathon.
My best running experience... doing a race where I don't think I'll know anybody and then running into other AREC members or other friends.
Last thoughts…I appreciate all the AREC leaders (Todd R., Todd B., Emmett, Lars, Ed and Bernard) who keep it all going!
