A Running Experience With... - November 2004 (edited by Tam Premsrirath)

Edward Villalobos

I've been with AREC since...1999.

I run with AREC because...it's a serious running club, meaning, you don't drink beer 'til after the run.

The best thing about AREC is...drinking at Limerick's afterwards.

I run because...I think it keeps me healthy and active.

When I'm not running...I'm cycling or playing tennis and of course, working!

My favorite running shoe brand is...Nike Air Pegasus.

My pre-race meal is...Clif Shot or cereal (I just started trying to eat before a race, usually I don't eat anything!)

My favorite post-race meal is...beer.

My favorite beer is...Harps.

After a race I treat myself to...beer.

My favorite race is...the Santa Anita Distance Derby. There's beer tasting in the afternoon for $10...you can taste all the beer you want...it's a scenic run, it's beautiful.

My goal is...in running, it's to not injure myself. In life, it's to stay both physically and financially healthy as long as I can.

When I run I think about...a difficult case that I'm gonna have, that I'll have in the next week or so, and winning that case. (Ed's an attorney, in case you're wondering!)

I'm inspired by...in running, I would say, a scantily clad sexy girl running in front of me.

My best training tip...I really don't train.

I love...races that have free beer afterwards.

I hate...I don't hate anything. I dislike races that start in one place and end in another place.

My biggest pet peeve is...running into a walker at a race.

I like racing because...I like the competitive spirit and the idea of winning medals in my age group. (Ed races every weekend!)

My best running experience...was my first 10K race at the 1986 Redondo Beach Superbowl Sunday 10K. It was my first race and I didn't know I could do it. I really enjoyed it.
