A Running Experience With... - February 2006 (edited by Tam Premsrirath)

Inger Nelson

I started running in…1999.

I started running with AREC…with the Jimmy Stewart Relay Marathon. I was an invited guest and I had so much fun that I started coming on Wednesdays.

I’ve been with AREC for… six months, some time last summer.

I run with AREC because… I like the people and I like the beer drinking at the end!

I run because… It keeps me sane…keeps me from screaming at people (as much).

When I’m not running I… cycle, work, spend time with my friends, play outside.

My pre-race meal is… a bagel.

After a race I treat myself to… beer and Mexican food.

My favorite race is… Chicago was my favorite marathon but I do Rock ‘n’ Roll over and over again.

My goal is… stress less and keep running.

My running mantra… ”Have fun!”

I’m inspired by… people that have so much less than me and accomplish so much more.

When I run I think about… solving the day’s problem, kind of rewinding the day and putting it in perspective.

My best training tip… go slow and run easy.

The best advice I ever got was… run your own race and don’t worry about beating someone. You can set personal goals but it’s about racing yourself.

I want to improve in… learning to judge my pace better so I can run negative splits.

I love… happy, positive people.

I hate… hypocrites and people who are narrow-minded and judgmental.

I run marathons because… it’s one big party, lots of people to talk to…it’s a fun morning!
