Profession…Parts Sales Manager
I started running in…high school to get in shape for basketball and baseball. I got cut from those sports and was asked to stay on the track and cross-country teams.
My life/sport philosophy…It’s not important, it’s just hashing. Or in other words, don’t sweat the small stuff.
My favorite spot to be active is…running by the Huntington Beach Pier.
Athletic highlights…sub 90- minute half-marathon in high-school. Little did I know that would be the best race of my life.
My running experience with AREC has been…outstanding. I wouldn’t be the person I am without it. It keeps me motivated to be healthy and active.
I’ve been with AREC since…I realized I needed to learn hashers ’ real names.
The best thing about AREC is…having a beer with Julia after the run. Wait, she quit, NOW WHAT DO I DO?
I run because…all of my friends do.
When I’m not running I…this time of year I’ll be watching the SUNS make a run through the NBA Playoffs.
My pre-race meal is…well, I try NOT to drink beer the night before a race, but I can’t say I always hold to that.
After a race I treat myself to…usually a long shower and a nap.
My favorite race is…I’ll have to say Long Beach Marathon and Half Marathon. I really enjoy seeing everybody’s training pay off when most of us all do the same big race. I’d never join a marathon training program without AREC people. I still may never do a full, but it is fun to have this group to run with on a weekly basis.
My goal is…I’m still just trying to stick with the 100 miles of racing per year. I want to run a really fast Long Beach Half Marathon this year.
My running mantra…On-On!!!
I’m inspired by…Pat Tillman and Heather Stevens.
My best training tip…My favorite part of a run is taking off my shoes after the run and putting on sandals. Gotta let my feet breathe. They usually don’t stink either.
The best advice I ever got was…probably dad helping me to figure out what to major in at Arizona State. I actually still use my degree and haven’t changed companies since graduating college in 1998.
I want to improve in…the consistency of running on my own.
I love…I forgot to mention my other “Life Philosophy/” It is the 3 “B’s” of life. Beer, Boobs, and Baseball. That’s about as good as it gets.
I hate…long lines, loud cell phone rings and dogs that fart when I’m trying to use the computer.
I run half marathons because…it is half the distance but twice the fun as a full.
Best experience….Still has to be the Boston trip with Warren where we got to BBQ on the rooftop overlooking Fenway Park with hashers we had just met the day before.
To all…Thanks to all who make AREC so much more than "just" a running club!!
