My profession… World Traveler but I pay the bills as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. I help children with disabilities learn how to use their body in order to get dressed, eat, write, play with toys...it is wonderful work!
I started running when I was… 8 years old? My father was a runner and I would go to the races and do the 1/2 mile or mile fun runs. I won a lot--always beating the boys! Times have changed but it was fun while it lasted.
My life/sport philosophy… Life: I am just happy to be out and able to experience all the pleasures around the world. I feel very lucky. Running: I know it is important to push myself in order to get stronger and faster but I don't ever want to lose the pure joy of just running because I can and because I should be good to my body.
My favorite spot to be active… so far, Africa has been great! I will keep you posted....many more place to go.
Athletic highlights… Every time I run trails. I am always proud of myself when I get up at the crack of dawn to experience the beauty of the outdoors.
My running experience with AREC has been… fantastic to say the least! I have met so many friends and am always inspired by each runner.
I’ve been with AREC since… I am not sure?? 3 years?
The best thing about AREC is… the support and organized training runs. The friendships that I have gained. I think I will be better off without the pub crawls though...
I run because… I can.
When I’m not running I… dance in the privacy of my own home, read a good book, cook a yummy meal, go for a walk, and best of all...spend time with my friends and their new babies!!
My favorite running surface is… the trails! I can't imagine running without the smell of damp dirt and the wild grasses. I love not knowing what is coming around the corner and it seems like I can run for hours without a care in the world.
My pre-race meal is… Nothing different. I don't change things up too much. Whole grains and proteins...
After a race I treat myself to… PANCAKES!!!
My favorite race is… Hood to Coast, Gay Pride Run (LBC), Road to Hana, ...there are too many to list.
My goal is… Oh, gosh...I don't have one right now. Really, I am just enjoying my travels and excited about moving to Hawaii. I guess I just better make sure my body is ready for year round biki time!
Apparently, the poster designer for the Wine Country Half Marathon remembered Kim eating grapes at a race in recent memory...
My running mantra… "What goes down must come up!" It is great to run trails and get some good down hill but I never forget that I must climb back up!
I’m inspired by… Zingers, Robles, Sterling, Colleen and Rich, TRose, World's Coolest Guy, Kristen "Ironman", and Laurie Selfers-I could go on and on.....they have all been so supportive and have really helped me this past year. Thanks!
My best training tip… listen to your body. If it is tired, rest. If you are sore, stretch. Ignoring the signs will only create a bigger problem.
The best advice I ever got was… I received so much great advice this year, I think what was the best however was that I finally listened to them and "built my bridge and got over it!".
I want to improve in… running with consistency: Speed, distance, strength...all of it. It will happen and I don't doubt my abilities.
I love… Complete Silence...I find those quiet moments in some of the most beautiful places: climbing Kilimanjaro, running in the middle of the night through Oregon, sitting on a beach after dark....
I hate… rudeness, overheating while running, injuries, comparing myself to others-a waste of time! People who say, "What's your best time??" I don't measure things that way. The only reason someone asks that is because they want to see if they are better than you--how sad!
I run marathons or half marathons or 10Ks or 5Ks because… I enjoy a personal challenge but I prefer only to pay for running when the money is going to a good cause, a donation of some sort.
I wish… for good health, with that I think I can do anything.
My best experience was… Does it get any better than today?? I am traveling around the world right now--this is by far a "best experience"!
To all… thank you, really, it has been A True Running Experience!
