Profession… Account Executive for Babor Cosmetics
My running experience with AREC has been…very positive. I’ve met lots of interesting people who are very passionate about running and I think that’s very inspiring.
I’ve been with AREC…unofficially for a year, officially since January.
I run with AREC…definitely for the social reasons! It’s a fun group. I don’t think running is fun so it makes a bit easier to get through the miles when you have someone to talk or listen to.
My life/sport philosophy is…find something enjoyable in everything you do.
My favorite spot to be active…is just being outdoors. I am kind of clumsy so I don’t have a favorite.
I run because…it’s a challenge.
Running history…My experience with running started in high school, for P.E. It was torturous to me when we had to run the mile! I always wanted to be sick that day. Somehow I managed to crawl through it. Basically I’ve always felt it was hard. I’ve always been active doing dance, baton twirling, and a brief stint with volleyball. But running…not so much.
I started running because of hashing. I had no idea of what to expect when I started hashing and found that there were walkers and runners of all levels. I started out as a walker and then worked up to running. The hash made running more appealing because the sooner you finish the trail the sooner you can have a cold, bubbly beer. The other thing about hashing is it’s always a different trail or course and it keeps running interesting. That’s what got me hooked.
A lot of people in my life run. Seeing them accomplish a half or full marathon is motivating so it makes you want to challenge yourself. Doing the Long Beach half marathon is proving to a challenge both mentally and physically. When I finish, it’ll be a big accomplishment. The other reason I would like to do the half marathon is that no one in my family is really active and would ever be able to do one.
When I’m not running…besides eating and drinking wine, I’m making jewelry and helping run the T-Shirt Factory. This is good because the answer in the past would have been shopping and that gets expensive after awhile. Don’t worry I still love to shop!
My goal is…to finish the half marathon and still be standing!
My running mantra…”The end of the course is near - I hope!”
I’m inspired by…happiness.
The best advice I was ever given…everything happens for a reason. At the time, it is always difficult to see but when looking back it always seems to be true. I usually find myself in a much happier situation in the end.
I want to improve in…my running posture because it’s very bad! Speed also because I’m slow like a snail!
Running has helped me…push myself mentally.
I love…make-up.
I hate…negativity.
I wish…I could run faster and with ease.
I hope…that when I am older I still stay active and in somewhat good shape.
My most embarrassing moment…was in high school. I was in a dance performance with the Dance Company that I belonged to. We were doing a Chorus Line number, when it was time to do one of the many leg kicks my right shoe flew off into the audience of 400 people. Wow, did the audience roar with laughter. I guess I need a smaller shoe size. It’s even on video somewhere. As a teenager that was pretty horrifying but I was able to laugh about it later that week.
Interesting facts…
The animal I’m most like is…a penguin because I am clumsy on land, graceful in the water and always dressed for any occasion.
If I was stranded on an island the three things I’d want are…sunscreen (I burn really easily), Jose, of course, and some food!
Final thoughts…AREC is an enjoyable experience! I am glad that I stumbled upon it because of the people I know.
