Age… 49
Profession… Database Analyst
Life/sport philosophy… Always try your best and the results will follow.
Favorite spot to be active… is any race or Signal Hill.
My running experience with AREC has been… fun. It’s been very rewarding and it got me interested in running again.
I’ve been with AREC for… four years this November.
The best thing about AREC is… the runners, the people.
I run… to stay healthy and young.
When I’m not running I… am working, drinking wine and enjoying time with Colleen.
My pre-race meal is… a maple bar donut or a banana and a bagel.
After a race I treat myself to… a beer, red meat and something fried like French fries or something.
My favorite race is… the PV (Palos Verdes) full and half marathons.
My goal is… I’d like to live to be 100 and running will help me live a long, healthy life.
My running mantra… I basically think of nothing. When I do need some motivation, I usually think of my brother, Heather or Colleen. But mostly I’m just zoned out. I try to clear my mind. It’s like meditation. I don’t like to listen to music or talk to people. I run solo (during a race.)
I’m inspired by… anybody who gives more than they take and I hope I’m one of them!
My running hero… is anyone who finishes a race. I like watching the people come in at a marathon, 7 or 8 hours later, how happy they are, how inspired they are…or anybody who finishes.
My dream is… that George Bush keels over and dies.
My best training tip… learn how to pace yourself and run even splits. No matter how fast you are, it’s more fun to pass people at the end of a race.
The best advice I ever got was… train properly for a race. My best non-running advice: buy Starbucks!
I want to improve… as an artist, creatively.
I have learned… that you can never learn enough.
Running has helped me… emotionally and physically be healthy.
I run marathons because… it’s an accomplishment just to finish. You don’t worry about the time. You just worry about finishing. It’s the one race where I’m not trying to beat anybody, just looking to finish.
I love… the smell of bacon in the morning.
I hate… people who take more than they give and George Bush.
My biggest pet peeve… people who bet out of turn (in Texas Hold ‘Em.)
I wish… that Barry Bonds would ‘fess up to the steroids.
Final thoughts… I just hope that AREC continues to flourish and that other people get out of it what I got out of it!
