A Running Experience with Tristan Kieva (edited by Tam Premsrirath) - January 2009

My profession…Food Marketer.

I started running in…2003. I started with the Lakewood Striders, through a friend and we ran on Saturdays in El Dorado Park. I was never a runner so I tried it, but walked a lot. J

My life/sport philosophy…”Let go!” You can only control you. No use in trying to control things you cannot.

My favorite spot to be active…(Ok, well….Matt said I wouldn’t have the guts to say this so that tells you a little more about me! LOL) If it is “indoors” then it would have to be in bed (with my coach of course!) If it is “outdoors” it would be anywhere near the ocean.

Athletic highlights…Running my first ever marathon in October in Long Beach. Ran it in 4:15:51 even with a severe hamstring injury! Not bad. Gonna try it again next year. Must love pain?!

My running experience with AREC has been…unexpectedly amazing! I had no idea what to expect and everything about my experiences have been incredible.

I’ve been with AREC since…my birthday, January 30th. It was the first day I went on a Wednesday and I had a great time meeting new people and getting a good run in.

The best thing about AREC is…by far the people. From all walks of life, varying ages and abilities. I have met some truly remarkable people.

I run because…it gives my mind clarity and makes me feel strong.

When I’m not running I…am staying pretty active with my two boys (ages 7 and 10), playing golf, watching sports and trying not to work too hard!

My favorite running surface is…well after falling on the trails and breaking my hand back in May, I would have to go with the streets! But I will not let it stop me. I will be back out on those trails!

My pre-race meal is…pasta.

After a race I treat myself to…a cold beer and a nap.

My favorite race is…Long Beach marathon. Great scenery. What a beautiful city we live in!

I’m inspired by…people who don’t know what can’t be done.

My best training tip…relax. Don’t get too intense and over train. I learned that lesson all too well.

I love…my kids, Matt and chocolate.

I hate…negative people.

I run races because of…the sense of accomplishment and self-empowerment

I wish…everyone a very happy and healthy life.

To all…I decided when I joined AREC to learn one new person’s name each Wednesday. Now I can honestly say that you’re all not just names to remember but truly my friends. :)
