A Running Experience with... Tammy Strong (edited by Tam Premsrirath) - July 2008

My profession… I work in Mortgage Banking. I have worked for the same company for almost 19 years.

I started running in… Hmm….I don’t rightly recall when I first started running seriously. I think it’s was about 2 years ago.

My life/sport philosophy… I believe in living life to the fullest. And to do that I feel I must be healthy. I have no wish to go to my grave regretting that I did not experience life to its fullest.

My favorite spot to be active… Running by the water! Athletic highlights… Doing my first half-marathon in Long Beach last year! Something that was not even a consideration years ago.

My running experience with AREC has been… the absolute highlight & turning point in my life. What a great group of people!

I’ve been with AREC since… I think it’s been about a year and a half now, maybe close to two.

The best thing about AREC is… the dedication of the runners, the encouragement you receive and the knowledge you attain from these incredible runners.

I run because… I love it!! And I haven’t found anything more therapeutic. If I’m having a bad day and I go out and run, when I’m done I feel great and my planets are aligned.

When I’m not running I… go to the gym and I read a lot (not at the gym!)

My favorite running surface is… I don’t really have one, I’ll run on anything if I have to.

My pre-race meal is… for the Long Beach Half-Marathon in the morning it was coffee, water and gu. The night before it’s salmon and pasta. Now AFTER the race, that’s entirely different.

After a race I treat myself to… relaxation and I eat whatever sounds good.

My favorite race is… I like 10Ks. They’re not long but you still get a good workout.

My goal is… to do a full marathon.

I’m inspired by… Bernard Dean Mills. It’s all his fault that I am so into running. He has taught me so much. His knowledge is astounding.

My best training tip… Run At Your Own Pace.

The best advice I ever got was… same as above.

I want to improve in… speed and good running form.

I love… a good run where everything comes together in my mind and body.

I hate… being around people who are not encouraging. And bad drivers.

I run half marathons because… If you had told me 3 years ago I would be running two half-marathons, I would have said you were nuts.

I wish… I ran faster.

My best experience was… joining AREC. And I really mean that.

To all… I thank you all who have encouraged me along the way and never made me feel bad because I am slow. I’m out there on Saturday mornings with these incredible runners and they’re telling me I’m doing a good job! THANK YOU and keep running!
