AREC Runner Updates - June 2003

Barb Hager Update

Some of you probably never met Barb Hager. She was one of the original 5 AREC regulars I met when I first moved to Long Beach (Laura, Diane, Barb, Todd and Bernard). She always wore stylish purple running gear and had a weird sense of humor. She moved back to Washington State about 3 years ago, and we haven’t seen her since, but we occasionally hear from her (Todd B. ran into her at a relay race in B.C. a few years back.).

Barb had been living on the boat for the past few years, but they had been working on building their dream home in Port Townsend, complete with pond and waterfall in the backyard. (sounds like an AREC road trip, to be sure…) They moved into the house February 1st.

At the end of February, Barb’s mom was diagnosed with cancer, and she took care of her (with hospice help) until her death in April.

On a happy note, Barb’s son, Ryan, and his fiancee, Dora, will be married in August in the newly built backyard. Also, Barb hopes to come visit us all in the Fall. Sounds like she wants to come down and do the Long Beach Marathon!
