We begin the newsletter this month on a somber note to pay tribute to Mel Mirliss and his 20+ years of running with A Running Experience Club. In case you haven’t heard yet, Mel died on February 2, 2006 at the all too young age of 65 after he collapsed while doing one of his favorite things in life… running, of course.
Mel was a stalwart on our Sunday morning fun runs, devotedly showing up even when it was sometimes only he and David Duckman there. We have them both to thank for keeping that run alive. A memorial service was held on February 10, 2006 in which Todd Rose and Bernard Dean Mills were able to attend and respectfully represent A.R.E.C. Following is a reprint of the newsletter article that Mel wrote for the January 2004 edition. If you never met him, this is your chance to learn a little about the man, and if you did know him, then this is your opportunity to reflect and remember.
Thanks for the memories Mel. We will miss you!
