Sorry if this sounds like a Taco Bell commercial; we haven’t finalized a name yet. Anyway, a few years ago, I proposed an idea to do a relay from Long Beach to San Diego. Recently, I mentioned it to Inger Nelson and she got as excited as I did, and so we are going to make it happen.
If you’ve ever read about Hood to Coast or The Relay, this is very similar. There will be 5 people on a team, each running 3 legs (total distance per person ranges from 18.5 to 23 miles). The run will start by Joe’s Crab Shack, and follow the coast down to Point Loma in San Diego (~100 miles) and conclude with a picnic/celebration.
The difference between this event and other similar events is the emphasis is put on camaraderie and fun! Runners will apply individually for the event and teams will be created with an even playing field in mind (unless you want to run it solo(!) or as a team of 2 or 3). The hope is that everyone will start together AND finish (relatively close) together.
We are holding a planning meeting on Wednesday, August 17th after the AREC run to discuss options and are looking for a date in early/mid-November. If you can’t make the meeting or have an interest in running, talk to me or Inger – we appreciate the input.
