One event that I have participated in for 8 of the last 9 years is the Robert DeCelle Tahoe Relays. This event is a relay around Lake Tahoe (approx. 78 miles). Last year, I ran my 7th separate leg, and have completed my own personal loop around the lake.
There are 7 legs, each approximately 10 miles (8.8 to 12.4), and the event takes about 10-12 hours. Afterwards, you have your choice of events, as the start is approximately 10 miles from the Nevada border, so casinos abound!
One of my other running clubs (in Davis, CA) will be having 4-5 teams, so it might be possible to coordinate something with them. The cost of the race is $200/team (which works out to $28.50 per person, and includes a t-shirt). Additional costs would be lodging (but I may be able to coordinate a deal with my other club of $20/two nights), gas to drive up, etc.
The Tahoe Relays are in June (I think the 3rd weekend). If you have any interest, please talk to me immediately. I would love to have a team compete. Or, if you happen to have a cabin up there…
