AREC Testimonials

I love running with AREC because I need and appreciate the support from the group. Extra benefits of the club include meeting new people, getting updates on races, learning training skills and just the general encouragement I get from spending time with other runners. The club is great because you will find a wide range of runners; fast and competitive to steady and strong. Everyone is out there for the same reason, to Run and be Happy. - Kimberly G., 36.

I joined AREC because I wanted to stay motivated to keep in shape for crew. I have never received so much support so quickly. I was one of the young ones only being 19 when I first joined. Ever since then I always look forward to summer and fall when I am able to capitalize on my running. I really enjoy running with these people, and I have learned so much ever since I have joined. I hope this is something that I can continue to be a part of for at least the next 19 years. - Elena D., 21

I was new to the Long Beach area when I joined AREC. After years of running on my own, I wanted to meet others who also shared a passion for running. In AREC, not only have I found others who enjoy running as much as I do, I have also met some great people who know how to enjoy life and have fun. - Tom A., 45

The weekly runs that are at the core of AREC take me back to the days of high school cross-country where the spirit of competition blends with camaraderie and good clean fun to yield a good workout and a good time. Whether you’re a serious runner, a social runner or a seriously social runner, you’ll find that you’ll look forward to the weekly runs with new friends, have greater motivation to continue a fitness routine and see the benefits of increased endurance and faster race times simply by joining the AREC group like I did. - David K., 55

I was searching for a group I could run with when I discovered AREC. Little did I know that I would get more than just a group of people to run with. Over the last several years, I have not only grown stronger as a runner, but have also developed lifelong friendships. I have learned that running is more than just a way to get physically fit or get in some cardio. Running is about the relationships that are formed. Running is about working out "stuff" that's difficult in your life. Running is challenging your mind and body. I couldn't have learned all that I have without AREC. The best thing is that AREC welcomes people of all shapes, sizes, speeds and experiences. All that's required is that you have fun! Tam P., 32

I was new to California and AREC opened doors for me in many ways. AREC members are very friendly and helped me accomplished goals I didn't think I could do. I ran my first Half Marathon and the support I got was PHENOMENAL. I currently reside in San Diego and still find myself drawn to the club. I may not be there all the time; however, I am with AREC in Spirit and hope to continue supporting the club for as long as I can. - Jacquie V., 39

It’s great to run in a non-competitive environment along a scenic course with friendly and supportive people. I have been involved with this club for more than 15 years and still look forward to every run. - Rick S., 55
