The AREC Trail running program is a perfect complement to our half and full marathon training program which occurs on Saturday mornings the remainder of the year, and provides an even greater variety of choices to our club members. These challenging runs build strength and endurance, and offer a completely different experience in beautiful areas that should not be missed! The schedule is geared to coincide with a Catalina trail half marathon in January and Marathon in March, although it is certainly not necessary to be training for one of those races to participate in the program.
Trail runs begin on the first Saturday of November and every Saturday thereafter through the end of April as conditions permit. Be advised that locations may change on short notice, due to inclement weather. Carpoolers leave from the Joe's Crab Shack parking lot (6550 N. Marina Drive) PROMPTLY at 7:00am for trail running destinations around Orange and Los Angeles Counties, so please arrive EARLY to use the restroom, mingle, and arrange for drivers first. Or... just meet us at the trailhead for an 8:00am start time. A shorter and longer distance route will be available each week. If you would like to check out the club first, in a casual and fun atmosphere, our shorter Wednesday runs are a perfect opportunity.
Please be aware that there are inherent risks involved with running trails and everyone's safety is the top priority! Terrain can be difficult at times and we will be sharing nature with animals, poisonous plants, mountain bikers and other runners/hikers. Each participant is required to carry the route map and plenty of liquids (more than on a regular street run). To better prepare you for your first run, read through and follow our Trail Commandments.
The Trail Running Program is included with club membership, so sign up today and hit the trails with us!
