A Running Experience Club (AREC) was founded in 1982 to provide a safe running environment for athletes of all ages and abilities in and around the Southern California community of Long Beach. As a member of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), we share the goal of uniting American running clubs in educating people about the benefits of running.

AREC is a true “runners club.” All of our members have a hand in creating the kind of club they want (for more information, see Member Testimonials) through participation in scheduled Board meetings held during the year to discuss the direction the club should take.

Membership in AREC is currently $25 ($40 for single family households) per calendar year (January 1 - December 31). This fee includes insurance coverage from RRCA for members at all club events, a monthly AREC newsletter, AREC team clothing, awards and food at special club events and much more.

New members can join by bringing a check and completing a membership form at one of our weekly runs, OR by printing out an Online Membership Form, filling it out and mailing it to the address on the form.

Current members can send an e-mail to edrahl@yahoo.com and a pre-printed PDF form will be e-mailed (which can be filled out and brought to a run or mailed).

NEW for 2007! Give the gift of AREC membership. Surprise a new or renewing member with membership in AREC. AREC will provide you with a gift card and envelope. At the first workout, he/she can fill out the form and instantly receive all AREC benefits. Who knows? It could be the impetus for getting that runner or walker out and about - athletic AND social.

Club Updates (Members Only) - Missed an e-mail? Log in and check out the messages.

Newsletter Archives - Check out Articles from past newsletters you may have missed. (Note: These are HTML files and will load fast.) - Coming Soon.

Forum - Any club topic you want to discuss without sending lots of e-mail messages (or you can subscribe to a particular topic). NEW!!

For more information about the club, contact Club President and RRCA certified coach Todd Rose at toddrunsarec@aol.com or Vice President Dave Kuntz at daveattoshiba@yahoo.com. Or come out today and join us for a run!

AREC offers multiple weekly opportunities to run the streets of Long Beach or even nearby trails:
Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm from KC Branaghan’s Irish Pub (map) - 5734 E. 2nd Street in Naples for a 5-mile loop for runners and a 3-mile loop for walkers.
This is a large social group of enthusiastic runners and walkers with usually 45-90 in attendance.
Arrive a bit early to secure parking, stretch and meet people.
KC Branaghan's provides us with the use of the "snug." You can leave items here (unsecure, so try not to leave valuables). Flyers for upcoming events/races will be on the table in the snug. Afterwards, many runners/walkers stay for food and/or drinks.
Runners and walkers are urged to always practice safety while on AREC runs, such as facing traffic, but especially during non-Daylight Saving times. Light colored clothing, reflective vests and flashing lights are recommended, while dark clothing, iPods and mp3 players are strongly discouraged.
Saturday mornings at 7:00am from the Joe's Crab Shack parking lot (map) - 6550 Marina Drive.
May - October: Long Beach International City Bank Marathon and Half Marathon training runs start and finish from this location.
November - April: Trail runs of various distances and run locations meet (for carpool) here as well.
Be ready to go AT 7:00am! These programs are both included with club membership.
